Doctoral Students

Jen Collins, MA is a doctoral level graduate student in the Clinical Psychology program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City under the direction of Dr. Erin Hambrick.  When she returned to her roots in Kansas City after more than a decade advocating for military families, she knew that she wanted her career to center around helping families who are affected by trauma and adversity as well as implementation research and building community-based partnerships.  As a result, her clinical focus primarily lies in working with children and their caregivers who are navigating through the complex issues associated with behavioral and developmental difficulties.  In addition to her academic and research pursuits, Jen works with an early childhood education program and counseling center that serves children and their families who are recovering from trauma. My name is Niesha King. I am a senior here at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. I am double majoring in both psychology and Spanish. I am interested in child-parent interactions and how it shapes the personality and skills of that child. My immediate goal is to gain research experience by analyzing child-caregiver play interactions, and forming a hypothesis based off of those observations. My long term goal is to obtain a PhD in counseling psychology and work with minorities in under-represented populations.

My name is Arfon Abdi; I am a first year pre-medicine student. I am double majoring in psychology and public health. I am currently beginning my research with Jessy Guler where we will be analyzing the lives of Somali and Arab refugees and their resilience after resettlement.
